ghost of loneliness

Loneliness creeps through
the void
that is created
in your heart
and pulls you
into the depths of eternal
darkness and sorrow.
It builds a wall
between you and your loved ones
making you unable to see
and hear them clearly.
Even when they show affection
you feel left out
wondering “Do I even matter?”
One by one
it cuts the ties
with people around you
making you feel
unwanted.
The ghost of loneliness
hanuts you,
it wishpers nasty stories
in your ears
and you believe them all
because no one
tells you otherwise.
You slowly start believing
that no one will notice
if you disappear into thin air
someday.

  4. When the protagonist in the poem is aware about her loneliness, it’s time for her to make every effort pull herself out of that. When in solitude, one could well be in one’s own company. But if someone consciously shuts everybody and everything out, loneliness sets in which haunts.

    1. I beg to differ. One could be in the company of others and still feel lonely. One does not always consciously shut others out for loneliness to kick in. In my opinion loneliness is a mixture of feeling unworthy and low self esteem as well.

      1. It’s okay friend, you are free to differ from my perception, because it was your poem and you know better about your emotion and how to handle that. I didn’t mean to sermonize over that. I just shared how I felt on reading the poem and do appreciate that you wrote. So carry on with your creative work. Best wishes!
