– you have to make commitments and follow through them.
Even if sometimes things are not in your favour you have to do what you are supposed to do. Even if you don’t feel like doing it, you gotta stick to your commitments. You have to meet deadlines effectively.
– you have to say and hear ‘no’ a lot
Even when you have really good plan and everything ready, be ready to hear no. Something or the other might not work out and things won’t go according to the plan.
You have to say no even when you really want to say “yess” because you got work to do and deadlines to meet.
– you have to take responsibilities and make it work
Taking responsibility for your action, words, behaviour, existence haha… Just saying!
– keeping your cool (all the freaking time)
When things are good, maintaining good relations with everyone is easy. But when things are not in your favour and something goes wrong at work and you feel like blaming others, that’s when you need to keep your cool. Being angry can have different consequences altogether at workplace.
– learning to confront someone “sweetly”
I mean…. This is what I feel. I am not the kinda person who can walk into the room and confront whoever has made a mistake. First of all I believe in letting go. I am not the kinda person who will wait to confront. I am the one who will avoid confrontation at all cost. But if the situation is serious, I can’t even confront anyone without them sensing my anger through voice or tone or words or expressions or whatever. I have a lot of work to do here.
One thing for sure, being good, skilled at confrontation is necessary. Like when you get your message across and the other person doesn’t feel bad. It is harder than it looks, believe me.
– you have to accept your mistakes and work extra hard to correct them
This is logical right? But it feels different as you grow up. You are more scared to make mistakes because now you feel like you are constantly being judged. And you are! By many people. In workplace making mistake and accepting the blame for it is like a nightmare… For some.. and by some I mean me.
– you have to please everyone, most of the time
Understanding everyone and working according to their perspective is not easy. Keeping everyone happy is so difficult! But the least you can do is not to at least offend or hurt them. Everything you say and do you have to be very careful of not to offend anyone.
With friends its easy, you are free to be yourself, you can roast eachother. But at workplace, with colleagues, you need to be very careful. Even one harmless little comment can be perceived differently by different people.
– think before you act.
I think I have said enough here.
